Pump Check & Cleaning
Got, mold, mildew and old milk? Most pumps harbor this and many moms continue to use their breastpumps not even knowing they are exposing these toxins into their expressed milk. It is recommended that between children you have your pump cleaned, suction quality and cycles per minute checked to ensure you have a pump that is working per the manufacture's specifications. Here at Blue Cocoon we are able to clean your pump (depends on style of pump) with a special cleaner to kill mold, bacteria and other nasty pathogens that can be in your pump. We test the suction quality of all pumps and the cycles per minute to ensure that your pump will function supporting your pumping needs.
It is important to have your pumps suction checked from baby to baby; pumps over time can wear down causing a potential problem resulting in a low milk supply. I have had several pumps fail the suction and cycles per minute check potentially resulting in a low supply or no milk being expressed.
When to have your pump checked or cleaned:
- Anytime milk gets into the system
- You notice a discoloration or mold in tubing
- Dropping suction
- Clicking or odd noises
- Output decreasing
- Low supply
- Not working well
- Change in cycles
- Packing it away for storage
- Next baby
We recommend with each new baby that you purchase new tubing if they have discoloration or mold, new membranes (need to be replaced every 3 months) and other parts as needed. With a pump check and cleaning we will look over your pumping parts and discuss with you any concerns we may have and make recommendations if parts need to be replaced.
We do not guarantee a sterile pump and recommend not using a borrowed or used pump due to health risks per manufacturer guidelines and the FDA.
***We cannot guarantee a pump cleaning to be free of transmission of diseases and other potentially harmful, bacteria, mold and pathogens that can transfer into breast milk from a breastpump. Look at what you can see and think about what you can't!**
No appointment needed, most of the time your pump can be cleaned and ready while you wait.
* WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAVING YOUR PUMP CLEANED AND CHECKED AS SOON AS YOU'RE DONE USING IT RATHER THAN WHEN YOU NEED IT FOR THE NEXT CHILD*
